Geraldine was born in the traditional coastal territory of her Haisla ancestors, Kitimat, British Columbia, on March 21, 1964. Killer Whale and Beaver are her family crests by birthright as one of the "people who live at the river mouth".

Her Haisla speaking ancestors were descendants of Tsimshian, Haida, and Oweekeno migrants who came to fish the eulachon that swim the area's five rivers. Eulachon oil was highly prized throughout the northwest, both for fuel and food - especially amongst the Haida and other nations that had no eulachon-bearing rivers of their own. Hence the Haisla became rich off trading the commodity along the coast and into the interior.

Inspired by her grandfather, Tom Nyce Sr., a Haisla carver, Geraldine became very interested in her peoples artwork in her early teens. After graduating high school she came to Vancouver to study at Langara College and then the Emily Carr School of Art. Today she works in the fishing industry but spends the off season painting such beautiful water colours as the originals available at Hill's Galleries.
